STATESBORO, GA—The South Carolina State Bulldogs will face the host Eagles of Georgia Southern in non-conference men's basketball action Saturday at Hanner Fieldhouse. Tip-off is 2:30 p.m.
South Carolina State picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday after knocking off Columbia International, 92-55, in their home-opener. Sophomore guard
Greg Mortimer led the Bulldogs with a game-high 17 points in the victory. Junior forward
Darryl Palmer posted the games only double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Sophomore guard
Karon Wright leads the team in scoring this season with 13.3 ppg, while Mortimer adds 10 points per outing. Palmer is the leader on the boards with 7.3 rebounds and 7.0 points per contest.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES: Meanwhile, GSU look to capture their fourth straight victory after a 78-72 victory over Florida International on Monday night. The Eagles dropped the season-opener to Illinois (71-80), but posted victories over Trinity College (86-49), Johnson University (97-41) and FIU. Redshirt senior guard Jelani Hewitt leads Georgia Southern in scoring with 22.3 ppg, while forward Trent Wiedeman is the force in the paint with 13.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per outing. Senior forward Angel Matias is the leader on the boards with 9.5 and 8.8 points per contest.
