SC State Travels To Morgan State In Pivotal MEAC Showdown At Hughes Stadium

GAME NOTES
BALTIMORE, MD—
The South Carolina State Bulldogs (7-3, 5-1 MEAC) will look to move one step closer to another league title Saturday, when they face a tough Morgan State Bears (5-5, 4-2 MEAC) team at Hughes Stadium.

Game time at Hughes Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will mark Military Appreciation/Varsity 'M' Day for the Bears.  The game will be broadcast live by Morgan State's flagship station WEAA, 88.9 FM and WSSB, 90.3 FM the official station of South Carolina State University.

Coach Pough and the Bulldogs are tied for first place with a 5-1 mark with N.C. A&T and is coming off a big 34-17 victory over FAMU at Bragg Stadium on last week. Meanwhile, the Bears are looking to bounce back from a 45-0 loss to N.C. A&T in Greensboro, NC.

THE BEARS-BULLDOGS SERIES
• Saturday's matchup marks the 37th meeting between the two schools.  The Bulldogs lead the overall series 30-5-1.
• SCSU has won the last nine meetings (2003-2013) against the Bears.
• MSU's last win against South Carolina State was a 23-12 win in Orangeburg, S.C. on Nov. 16, 2002 during Donald Hill-Eley's first season as Morgan State's head coach.
• South Carolina State's last trip to Baltimore was on Nov. 11, 2010. The Bulldogs handed the Bears a 32-10 loss at Hughes Stadium. The last time Morgan State dropped the Bulldogs at Hughes Stadium was on Oct. 19, 1974 in a 23-17 victory during Nat Taylor's first season as Morgan State's head coach.

The COACHES:
MSU enters its 116th season of football, and the first under head coach Lee Hull with a 5-5 record. Oliver 'Buddy' Pough is in his 13th year as S.C. State's head coach. He has led the Bulldogs to an impressive 102-43 record. His teams have also captured two MEAC titles (2008 & 2009) outright, shared three others (2004, 2010 and 2013), and made four trips to the prestigious FCS playoffs (2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013).

BULLDOG BITES
The Bulldogs finished with an overall mark of 9-4 and were T-1st place with a 7-1 MEAC record during the 2013 season.
• They return 40 letter winners to go along with 14 starters from a team that won four of its final five games of the 2013 season.
• S.C. State will enter this weekend's contest fresh off of a 34-17 road victory versus Florida A&M. Andrew Kollock , Jr. threw a touchdown and ran for two more. The Bulldogs held the Rattlers to 46 rushing yards and forced three turnovers.
• Kollock, a 6-2, 202 pound redshirt sophomore QB, has led the Bulldogs to a 7-3 record and he ranks No. 6 in the MEAC in passing. He has completed 55.3 percent of his passes (73-132) for 961 yards, including 6 TDs and 5 INTs.
Jalen Simmons, 5-8, 205 pound junior, is the league's No. 3 leading rusher by accounting for 987 yards on 174 carries (5.7 avg) with 7 TDs.
• Wideouts Taquan West, Temarrick Hemingway and Brandon King have led the Bulldogs as  favorite receiving targets. West has 355 yards on 25 catches with a five TDs, while Hemingway has 17 receptions for 227 and a TD, and King has 16 catches for 210 yards and a TD.
• The Bulldogs have one of the top defenses in the MEAC. The defense ranks No. 3 in the conference in rushing defense (131.6), No. 4 in scoring defense (20.6), and No. 4 in total defense (326.2).
• S.C. State's defense has been led by Darius Leonard, Justin Hughes and Javon Hargrave. Leonard has 67 tackles, with 11 tackles for loss, five sacks and two forced fumbles. Hughes has 55 stops with 7 TFLs, and two interceptions.  Hargrave has been an absolute beast in the trenches. He currently leads the FCS with 22.5 tackles for loss and Ranks No. 2 in sacks (15).

South Carolina State will close out the regular season at home next Saturday (Nov.22) when they host the visiting Spartans of Norfolk State University in a 1:30 p.m. contest. SC State will also celebrate "Senior Day" and will salute 17 seniors who will play their final home game at O.C .Dawson Stadium.
