Box Score ORANGEBURG, SC— Junior running back
Jalen Simmons rushed for a 115 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns to lead South Carolina State to a 59-7 routing over Savannah State on Saturday at Oliver.C. Dawson Stadium.
"It was a great win for us , despite having a few players out with injury", said SC State head coach Buddy Pough. "We got off to a good start and from that point everything starting clicking in the right direction"

Dayshawn Taylor spearheaded the Bulldog defense with 8.5 tackles, while teammate junior linebacker
Tevin Richard finished with 7 tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss.
Simmons led the charge early with a pair of touchdown runs of 16 and 17 yards midway through the first quarter at the 9:30 mark to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead.
Redshirt sophomore
Adrian Kollock, Jr. connected with
Taquan West on a 16-yard touchdown reception at the 14:52 mark in the second quarter. Junior defensive back
Antonio Hamilton for the second straight week returned a punt (55-yards) for a touchdown.
Dondre Lewis-Freeman extended SC State's lead to 35-0 on a 4-yard run with 6:18 remaining in the second quarter. Kollock, Jr. and West connected again for a 19-yard touchdown to take a commanding 42-0 lead over Savannah State to close out the first-half.
Freshman kicker
Tyler Scandrett opened up the third quarter with a 28-yard field goal. The Bulldogs highlight of the day came on defense, with an 86-yard interception for a touchdown by redshirt junior defensive back
Dominique Mitchell who missed all of last season with an injury.
Jalen McGriff gave SSU their only score of the night on a 6-yard pass from Tino Smith at the 10:11 mark in the fourth quarter. SC State's secondary came up big on their second interception of the day on a 40-yard return by redshirt freshman
Devondre Powell with 6:56 remaining in the game to seal the victory.
SSU was led by Alfred Ansley with 7 tackles and 2 TFL. Junior linebacker Justin Dixon added 5.5 tackles in the loss. The Bulldog defense limited SSU Offense to 130-yards total offense on the day.
The Bulldogs improve to 6-3 overall, 4-1 in the MEAC, while Savannah States fall so 0-9 overall, 0-6 in the league.
South Carolina State returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 8) when they travel to the sunshine state to take on conference foe Florida A&M in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
