SC State Host #14 BC-U Wildcats In Pivotal MEAC Showdown

GAME NOTES VERSUS BETHUNE-COOKMAN
ORANGEBURG, SC—
The South Carolina State Bulldogs (4-3, 2-1 MEAC) will battle the visiting Bethune-Cookman (6-1, 3-0 MEAC) Wildcats in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown Saturday at O.C. Dawson Stadium. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m.

The contest is a critical one for Coach Buddy Pough and the Bulldogs, who are hoping to rebound from their first league loss – a 48-35 home setback to NC Central two weeks (Oct. 11) ago. SC State was idle last week.

A loss would drop the Bulldogs two games behind the Wildcats and out of the running for the MEAC title and a postseason berth.

"It's a win or go home type situation for us," said Pough at his weekly news conference Monday. "The ox is in the ditch and we have to get him out. Our backs are against the wall and we have to find a way to win a ball game."

THE ATTRACTION: South Carolina State is celebrating Business and Industry Day. The University will recognize its sponsors and supporters during a special ceremony.

THE SERIES: The Bulldogs and Wildcats are meeting for the 52nd time in a series that began in 1956. SC State enjoys a 31-19-1 edge in the rivalry. However, B-C has won three of the last four meetings, including the last two appearances in Orangeburg. B-C triumphed 14-3 at Daytona Beach last season. The Bulldog's last victory in the series was a 26-18 win at Daytona Beach in 2011.

THE COACHES : SC State's Buddy Pough (SC State '75) is in his 13th season as head coach at his alma mater and owns a 101-46 overall mark. He is 6-6 against Bethune-Cookman.  Brian Jenkins (Cincinnati '93) is in his fifth season as head coach at Bethune-Cookman.  He is 43-12 as a head coach and is 3-1against the Bulldogs
