SC State Opens Four-Game Home-Stand Against Florida A&M

Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State women's basketball team will host Florida A&M in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest, this Saturday, Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. This will be the first of four straight home conference matchups for the Lady Bulldogs, who will host Bethune-Cookman on Monday (Jan. 20), Norfolk State next Saturday (Jan. 25) and Hampton next Monday (Jan. 27). All contests will be played at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on the campus of SC State.

SC State enters the contest at 4-9 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC. In their last outing (Monday, Jan. 13), the Lady Bulldogs fell to Coppin State, 49-62, in a MEAC matchup. Junior guard/forward Kourtney Williams led all scorers in the contest with 16 points. Williams is also leading SC State in scoring averaging 17.8 points per outing. Redshirt-sophomore Mykala Jones is averaging 9.8 points while graduate Cabriel Duren is averaging 9.5 points with a team leading 3.6 assists per game. Junior Persephone Goodwin is leading the team in rebounds at 5.9 boards per outing.

Florida A&M, brings an 8-9 overall record and 2-2 MEAC bill into the contest. In their last outing, the Lady Rattlers defeated N.C. A&T by four, 55-51, in a MEAC matchup. Jasmine Grice dropped in a game-high 24 points for the Lady Rattlers in the victory. Grice is averaging 21.9 points to lead Florida A&M.

Note: All fans arriving by halftime will receive a ticket which will qualify them to receive great prizes.  Fans are also asked to bring two canned-goods for the pantry at Samaritan House a local residental group home.
