Bulldogs Face No.4 Tigers In Death Valley

, SC—The South Carolina State Bulldogs (0-1) will face their toughest task of the season Saturday when they travel to face fourth-ranked Clemson (1-0) at Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is 12:30 p.m. and will be televised on (RSN) Regional Sports Network affiliated Fox Sports South. Check your local cable provider for listings.

Coach Buddy Pough who is entering his 12th season at the helm and the Bulldogs will seek their first win ever over a FBS opponent this week. In their last meeting the Tigers tamed the Bulldogs 54-0 in 2008 at Memorial Stadium.

Last week the Bulldogs dropped a heartbreaker , 27-20, to #25 Coastal Carolina in a battle of the defenses at Oliver. C. Dawson. Red-Shirt senior quarterback Richard Cue finished with a game-high 13-of-23 for 178 yards and one touchdown. Kentucky transfer red-shirt sophomore Justin Taylor led the rushing attack with 24 rushes for 80 yards and a touchdown, while teammate junior Julius Pendergrass added 58 yards on 18 carries.

The defense was spearheaded by junior linebacker Justin Hughes and senior Joe Thomas tallying nine tackles each for the Bulldogs. Kicker/punter Nick Belcher had a tremendous day on special teams with five punts for an average of 48.0 yards. His longest was 61-yards on the day.

Senior Tyler McDonald led the receiving corps with four catches for 104 yards and one touchdown, earning him MEAC Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 1 while, Taylor (MEAC Rookie of the Week) and Belcher (Co-Special Teams Player of the Week) also earned All-MEAC accolades as well for their performance.

Senior quarterback Tajh Boyd leads the high-powered offense for the Tigers throwing for three touchdowns and running for two in the 38-35 win over fifth ranked Georgia last week. Boyd is accompanied by All-American wide receiver Sammy Watkins who had six catches for 127 yards and one touchdown against the Bulldogs.

SC State will return to action on Saturday Sept. 14, when they host visiting SWAC foe the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M at O.C. Dawson Stadium in a non-conference matchup. Kick-off is 6 p.m.

The South Carolina State weekly coaches TV show, "The Buddy Pough Show" will now air on Fox Sport South each week on Wednesday's at 6 p.m. ET and re-air on Friday's at 3:00 p.m. ET.

The Buddy Pough Talk Show on 102.9 FM Old School Radio returns to the air this coming Thursday live from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Toyota of Orangeburg on 601 across from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
