SC State Falls to Georgia in Women’s Basketball

Athens, Ga.-- The SC State women's basketball team fell to the University of Georgia, 58-74, in a non-conference matchup in Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga. With the loss the Lady Bulldogs dropped to 1-3 overall while the Georgia Bulldogs improves to 6-0.

SC State had three players to finish in double-digits led by Kourtney Williams with 15, including 13 in the second half. Persephone Goodwin had a good all-around game as she scored 13 points with five rebounds coupled with two blocks and one steal. Cabriel Duren contributed 13 points while Mykala Jones and Brittany Andersen had seven points each in the loss.

"We played well at times," said head coach Doug Robertson, who is in his sixth season at the helm of the Lady Bulldogs. "We had too many live ball turnovers which didn't allow us to control tempo something that we needed to do."

Georgia was led in scoring by Erika Ford with a game-high 23 points. Tiaria Griffin recorded a double-double with 16 points-10 rebounds and Khaalidah Miller dropped in 11 points in the victory.

SC State will travel to the College of Charleston on Saturday, Nov. 30, before taking a break from competition during exam week. The Lady Bulldogs will resume its six-game road swing on Saturday, December 14 when they travel to Clemson University. SC State will face Alabama A&M (12-17), Jacksonville State (12-19) and South Carolina (12-22) before returning home to open its 2013-14 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on December 30.
