SC State On The Road Against #14 BC-U

SC State Game Notes
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA.—The South Carolina State Bulldogs (5-2 overall, 3-0 MEAC) will be on the road this week against defending MEAC Champion #14 Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (6-1 overall, 3-0 league ) for the battle for first place in the league Saturday at Municipal Stadium. Kick-off is 4 p.m.

Coach Pough and the Bulldogs enter the contest on a five game winning streak with league wins over Hampton (30-6), N.C. A&T (29-25) and NC Central (44-3). The winner of this game will be in sole possession of first place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference race.

South Carolina State leads the all-time series 29-19-1 against Bethune-Cookman. In the past the winner of the BC-U versus SCSU game has gone on to win the last six MEAC Championships.
The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week after a huge win over NC Central two weeks ago. Meanwhile, the Wildcats knocked off a struggling Savannah State team 48-21 in the Biker Classic in Daytona Beach.

Senior redshirt quarterback Richard Cue leads the air attack for SC State throwing 85-of-152 for 1,067 yards and 8 TD's, while senior wide receiver Tyler McDonald is tied with the Career Reception Leader Oliver (Tre') Young with 135. McDonald needs one more catch to become the All-Time Career Reception Leader at SC State and 110-yards to become to Career Yardage Leader. He currently has 27 catches for 606 yards and 5 TD's on the season.

Kentucky transfer and redshirt freshman Justin Taylor leads the rushing attack with 105 carries for 356 yards and 6 TD's ,while talented sophomore Dondre Lewis-Freeman is second with 60 rushes for 277 yards a 4 TD's.

Senior linebacker Joe Thomas is the heart and soul of the Bulldog defense leading the way with 64 tackles (48 solo), 9 TFL for 46 yards, 3 sacks for 20 yards and one interception, senior defense back Kimario Mcfadden 43 tackles (35 solo) and 3TFL, and junior linebacker Justin Hughes is tied at second 43 tackles (32 solo) 3.0 TFL, 1 sack and one interception while teammate junior defensive end Andrew Carter is a head hunter on the defensive line with 36 tackles (26 solo), 11.5 TFL for 69 yards and 8.5 sacks for 56 yards. Carter leads the MEAC with sacks (8.5) and is ranked #2 nationally in FCS Division I-AA

South Carolina State returns to action on next week when they travel to Savannah, GA to take on the Tigers of Savannah State in a pivotal league showdown. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
