ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State will induct nine new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame during a banquet Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at 7 p.m. at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. The university will also enshrine two teams.
Making up the 2012 class of inductees are Dwayne Jackson (football 1978-82), Lamin Drammeh (track and field 1997-2000), Angelo King (football 1977-80), Joseph “Ross” McConahey (swimming 1977-81), Raleigh Roundtree (football 1993-96), Hampton G. Simpson (football 1934-38, posthumous), Dr. Malcolm Walters, Jr. (cross country/track and field 1983-87), Kenneth Washington (track and field 1991-95) and Al Young (football 1967-70).
Teams to be inducted are the 1976 national black champion football team and the 1982 AIAW national track and field championship team.
The 1976 football team finished 10-1-0 overall, was 5-1-0 in the MEAC, captured the Bicentennial Bowl, and produced two All-Americans and 10 first team All-MEAC selections. The 1982 women's track and field team captured the MEAC championship, the AIAW (Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women) Division II national title and produced eight All-Americans.
Banquet tickets are $50 for adults and $35 for children15 years old and under. A table for 10 is $450. Additional information and other details about the induction will be forthcoming.
