SC State Closes Out the Regular Season with a Loss to Delaware State

Dover, Del.—SC State closed out its regular season with a 55-53 loss to Delaware State. This is the first time in two seasons that the Lady Bulldogs closed out its regular season on the road.

The game began with SC State jumping out to an 11-4 lead by the 15 minute mark.  The Lady Bulldogs went up by as many as 10, 16-6, before Delaware State put its offense into motion.  The Lady Hornets used a 7-1 run to cut the lead to four, 17-13, with 11:52 remaining.  Delaware State kept pressing taking its first lead, 23-21, with 7:42 remaining in the first half. SC State used a mini four-point run to regain the two point lead, 25-23, at the 6:37 mark. The Lady Bulldogs increased its lead to six, 30-24, heading into the final media timeout of the half (3:46).  SC State enjoyed a two-point lead heading into the half up 31-29.

The teams exchanged baskets to begin the second half.  SC State gained momentum, going up by five, 40-35, with 14:05 remaining in the contest.  Delaware State then picked up its intensity, going on a 7-2 run to tie the game at 42-42 with 9:58 remaining.  The teams exchanged the lead over the next five minutes before a three-pointer by Delaware State's Tasia Bristow tied the game at 49-49 heading into the final media timeout of the game (3:46).  The teams once again began to exchange baskets with neither team taking more than a two-point lead over the next two minutes.  After a missed three-pointer by the Lady Bulldog's Tiara Knotts with 8.5 remaining, Delaware State went the length of the floor and a layup by Tiara Hawkins with just over two seconds remaining to give the Lady Hornets the 55-53 victory.

Senior Tracey Flowers and junior Tiara Knotts led the way for SC State, dropping in 13 points each.  Paris Alston scored eight points with seven rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs fell to 12-15 overall and 7-9 in the MEAC.

Delaware State was led by Tasia Bristow with 19 points.  Tierra Hawkins scored 16 points and pulled in six rebounds for the Lady Hornets who improved to 7-22 overall and 4-12 in the MEAC.

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to participate in the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Basketball Tournament.  The tournament is set for Monday-Saturday, March 5-10 at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
