Tigers Close Out Season Sweep Of Bulldogs 73-60

Box Score ORANGEBURG,SC—Senior guard Brandon Riley tossed in a game-high  18 points, while teammate Omar Sanders recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds only to fall short, 70-63, to Savannah State Saturday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
        SC State (4-18 overall, 0-9 MEAC) dropped its ninth-straight Mid-Eastern Athletic contest of the season, while Savannah State improves to 13-10 overall, 7-2 in the league.
         Associate head coach Murray Garvin filling in for head coach Tim Carter who was under the weather praised his team's efforts for battling back from a 16-point deficit early in the first-half.
         “I have to give this team credit they never gave up and really played hard,” said Garvin. “We had some costly turnovers down the stretch but overall we did d good job of defending their guards.”
         Savannah State jumped out to their biggest lead of the night 16, 33-17, off a driving layup by junior guard Cedric Smith at the 6:28 mark.  A follow-up dunk by Sanders cut the lead to 10, 33-23, with 4:30 left in the half.
        The Tigers took a commanding 41-27 lead into halftime over the Bulldogs.
        SC State pulled as close as three, 45-42, off a jumper by Sanders at the 14:51 mark in the game. Junior forward Louis Arnold's layup with 1:33 left sealed the 73-60 victory for Savannah State.
         Arnold led the Tigers with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while guard's Deric Rudolph and Joshua Montgomery each chipped in 12 in the victory.
        Garvin stated, “We had missed opportunities down the stretch when we pulled within three early in the second half. The shots we needed to make just didn't fall for us tonight.”
         Despite, a game-high 24 turnovers from the SC State they still manage to outrebound Savannah State 42-40.
         SC State will return to action on Monday night whey the host Longwood University in a non-conference matchup. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
