SC State Basketball Teams Host Bethune-Cookman In MEAC Doubleheader

**MEAC Basketball Doubleheader**
ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams will face a tough task this weekend, when they play host to the visiting Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman in MEAC doubleheader action Saturday. Tipoff is 2 p.m. for the women, 4 p.m. for the men at Smith-Hammond Memorial Center.
      The Bulldogs (5-20 overall, 0-11 MEAC), still seeking their first conference win of the season, will face a talented Wildcat team (12-14 overall, 8-3 MEAC) currently ranked fourth in the conference. SC State is coming off a tough 71-56 loss to NC Central on Monday, while Bethune-Cookman defeated Howard 73-67 in Washington, DC.
           Senior guard Brandon Riley leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 16.6 ppg, while floor general and point guard Khalif Toombs and senior Omar Sanders is averaging over 10 points per contest. Sanders lead team in rebounding with 7.4 per outing.
         The Wildcats have four players in double figures with Kevin Dukes, Andrien Coleman, and Anthony Breeze each averaging over 11 points per contest. Garrius Holeman leads the team in rebounding with 6.3, while scoring 10 points per outing.
        On the women's side, the Lady Bulldogs (11-11 overall, 6-5 MEAC) will take on a scrappy Lady Wildcat team (7-16 overall, 4-7 MEAC) looking to claw their way back into the conference race.  
         SC State currently ranked fourth in the conference, captured their third-straight league victory with a 78-52 routing over NC Central on Monday. Meanwhile, Bethune-Cookman dropped a 58-50 decision to Howard University.
      Junior point guard Tiara Knotts leads the SC State women in scoring with 12.8 ppg, while forward Paris Alston and guard Cabriel Duren are averaging a little over 9.0 points per outing. Junior forward Tiana Hemphill is the Lady Bulldog rebounding leader, grabbing 8.4 boards per contest.
        The Lady Wildcats are led by Jasmine Elum with 13.3 ppg, and 3.1 rpg, while Demetria Franks leads the team in rebounding with 6.4 rpg and adding 12.1 points per contest.
        Both SC State teams will return to action on Monday when they host Florida A&M in a crucial Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown. Tipoff for the women's contest is set for 5:30 p.m. The men's game will follow immediately after.
