SC State Dominates in 78-52 Victory Over North Carolina Central in Women’s Basketball

Lady Bulldogs Wins Third Straight Conference Game

Durham, N.C.—The SC State women's basketball team had its highest first-half offensive output, 44 points, en route to a 78-52 victory over North Carolina Central.  The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matchup was played at the McDougald-McLendon Gym on the campus of North Carolina Central.

SC State dominated from the tip, opening the game with a 15-6 run.  The Lady Bulldogs increased its lead to 20, 30-10, by the 11:12 mark.  SC State went up by 25, 39-14 with 7:57 remaining.  The Lady Bulldogs enjoyed its biggest first half lead, 41-14 with 3:54 remaining.  and would go up by 27, 41-14 before heading into intermission up by 26, 44-18.

The Lady Bulldogs maintained its intensity to start the second half, using a 9-4 run to increase its lead to 30, 52-22, with just under 18 minutes remaining in the contest.  After a mini 6-2 run by North Carolina Central which cut the deficit to 26, 54-28, SC State went on a 5-0 run of its own to push its lead to 32, 62-30 with 13:54 remaining.  The Lady Bulldogs kept pressing, enjoying its biggest lead of 39, 39-78, with just under seven minutes remaining.  The Lady Eagles had one last run remaining as they closed the game on a 13-0 run to fall SC State by 26, 78-52.

For the second straight game, SC State had four players to score in double-figures.  Junior Paris Alston led the way with a double-double, 19 points-13 rebounds.  Tiara Knotts scored 18, Tracey Flowers added 12 and Tiana Hemphill came off the bench to contribute 12 points-8 rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 11-11 overall and 6-5 in the MEAC.

Chasidy Williams scored a game-high 23 points with 13 rebounds for North Carolina Central, who fell to 3-22 overall and 1-11 in its first season in the MEAC.

SC State will begin its final home-stand of the season beginning this Saturday, Feb. 18 when they host Bethune-Cookman at 2 p.m.  The Lady Bulldogs will then host Florida A&M (Feb. 21) and North Carolina A&T (Feb. 25) before closing out the four-game home stand against North Carolina Central on Feb. 27.  SC State will close out the 2012 regular season on Thursday, March 1 at Delaware State.
