Eagles Drop Bulldogs 82-61 In MEAC Play

Radovic scores career-high 17 points, while grabbing 12 rebounds in loss.
Box Score ORANGEBURG,SC — The South Carolina State men's basketball team dropped it tenth-straight contest in a row suffering a tough 82-61 loss to the Eagles of Coppin State  Monday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
        The Bulldogs fall to 4-12 overall 0-3 in the MEAC, while the Eagles improve to 7-9 overall and 2-1 in the league.
        “We did not play well tonight on every end of the floor,” said SC State head coach Tim Carter. “At times we looked sluggish and just couldn't get back to defend.”
         Freshman forward Luka Radovic recorded the games only double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds for SC State. Coppin State was led by Michael Harper with 25 points and Logan Wiens with 23, while Akeem Ellis added 13 in the victory.
        A monster dunk by Harper at the 6:35 mark pushes the Eagles ahead six, 33-27. Harper nailed back-to-back 3-pointers with 1:27 left in the first-half to give Coppin State a 12 point advantage, 46-34. The Eagles closed out the half with a 46-43 lead over the Bulldogs.
        Logan Weins led all scorers at the half with 18 points connecting 4-of-4 from behind the 3-point range, while Harper tossed in 13 hitting 3-of-4 from downtown.
The second-half belong to the Eagles increasing the lead to 16, 62-46 off a layup by Tony Gallo with 9:20 left.  Harper's layup with 0:10 seconds left gave Coppin State a 21-point victory margin 82-61.
         Carter stated, “Anytime you lose a conference game whether it's by one or two points it's tough. We have to find a way to get things going and finish strong.”
Senior forward Joe Ikhinmwin finished with 10 points and five rebounds, while forward Omar Sanders chipped in 9 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
         Despite the loss SC State out-rebounded Coppin State 45-33 on the boards, while on shooting 16% from 3-point range connecting on 5-of-31.
         SC State begins a four-game MEAC road swing Saturday that will take Carter's team to Daytona Beach, Tallahassee, Savannah, and Virginia to meet Bethune-Cookman (Jan. 14), Florida A&M (Jan. 16), Savannah State (Jan. 21) and Hampton(Jan.24) before hosting Howard Jan. 30.
