Bulldogs Host Eagles In Pivotal MEAC Showdown Tonight

SC State head coach Tim Carter will be looking to knock off a tough Eagle team coached by legandary coach Ron "Fang" Mitchell Monday.
ORANGEBURG,SC – The South Carolina State men's basketball team will be looking to turn things around tonight as they face the Eagles of Coppin State in a pivotal league showdown Monday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m., following the women's contest.
          The Bulldogs (4-11, 0-2 MEAC) plagued by injuries throughout the season has their eyes on posting its first conference win of the season by knocking off the Eagles (6-9 overall, 1-1 MEAC).
            Last outing the Bulldogs dropped its second-straight league contest falling to Morgan State 73-68 Saturday in Orangeburg. Brandon Riley poured in a game-high 26 points, while forward Omar Sanders recorded the games only double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Senior key reserve Joe Ikhinmwin chipped in 11 off the bench in the loss.
             SC State is led in scoring by senior guard Brandon Riley with 18.0 ppg and 4.3 rpg, while junior point guard Khalif Toombs is second with 11.1 ppg and 3.9 apg. Senior forward Omar Sander leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 rebounds per outing and 10.3 points.
             Coppin State is coached by legendary Hall of Fame coach  Ron “Fang” Mitchell. The Eagles is led by Tony Gallo with 18.3 ppg, while teammate Akeem Ellis adds 13.9 ppg and 5.3 rpg.  Antonio Williams leads the team in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds per contest, while scoring 6.3 points per game.
             SC State will return to action this weekend when they travel to the sunshine state to take on Bethune-Cookman Saturday in a crucial league clashing. Tipoff is set for  4:30 p.m. The Bulldogs will then travel to take on the Rattlers of Florida A&M on Monday in a 8 pm. Showdown.
