SC State Women’s Basketball Set to Resume Conference Play

Lady Bulldogs Host Morgan State on Saturday

Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State women's basketball team will resume its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play this Saturday, Jan. 7 when they host Morgan State in a 2 p.m. contest. The Lady Bulldogs will host Coppin State on Monday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m.  Both contests will be played at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on the campus of SC State.

SC State enters the contest at 6-7 overall and 1-1 in the MEAC.  In their last outing (Tues. Jan. 3), the Lady Bulldogs closed out its non-conference schedule with a 78-56 win over Southern Wesleyan.  Junior guard Tiara Knotts is leading SC State in scoring averaging 13.2 points per outing.  Junior forward Tiana Hemphill leads the team in rebounding at 8.5 boards per contest.  Junior center Paris Alston is also playing well for SC State as she is averaging 7.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest.

Morgan State enters the matchup with an eight game losing streak.  The Lady Bears fell to Florida International, 60-77, on Tuesday (Jan. 3).  Dekeisha Mathis and Tracey Carrington currently lead Morgan in scoring and rebounding averaging 14 points and 5.4 rebounds, respectively.

After Monday's contest, SC State will hit the road for the next three games beginning Saturday, Jan. 14, when they travel to Daytona Beach to take on Bethune-Cookman.  The Lady Bulldog will then travel to Florida A&M (Jan. 16) and Savannah State (Jan. 21) before returning home to host Howard on Monday, Jan. 30.
