ORANGEBURG, SC – The City of Orangeburg and the Greater Orangeburg Chamber of Commerce will help South Carolina State football team kick off its 2011 campaign Monday with the annual “Rally at the Square in downtown Orangeburg. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The event will feature performances by the SC State cheerleaders and the famed Marching 101 Band as well as area high school cheerleading squads.
There will also be remarks by city and county officials and representative from SC State, including President George Cooper, athletics director Charlene Johnson and head coach Buddy Pough and this year's Bulldog captains.
The SC State football team will have a walk through at 6 a.m. Monday, then take the rest of the day off, and Coach Pough will hold his weekly press conference at 9 a.m. at the Conference Room of Rowe Hall on the campus.
The Bulldogs, who are ranked number one in the Sheridan Broadcasting Network 2011 Preseason Poll, open this year's campaign Thursday night at Central Michigan. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
