SC State Basketball Teams On The Road Against Hampton

HAMPTON, VA—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams will be on the road this weekend when they  take on the Pirates of Hampton University at the HU Convocation Center in a pivotal MEAC doubleheader. Tip-off for the women's contest is 4 p.m. with the men's following.
           Coach Doug Robertson, who enters his third season at the helm of the SC State women's basketball program, will take on the defending MEAC Champions Hampton University Lady Pirates(15-6 overall, 8-1 MEAC).The Lady Bulldogs enter the contest with a 6-12 overall record and 2-6 mark in the MEAC.The Lady Bulldogs are led in scoring by senior guard/forward Whitney Wiley with 11.4 ppg and a team-leading 39 steals.
      Newcomer and junior forward/center Fannie Goodwin adds depths in the post with 7.9 ppg and 6.1 rpg, while JUCO transfer Tracey Flowers and sophomore guard Tiara Knotts each chips in 7.0 points per contest.
    The Lady Pirates have four players in double-figures with Quanneisha Perry leading with way with 13.2 ppg and 9.0 rbg, Nicole Hamilton and Jericka Jenkins both averaging a little over 12 points per contest. Melanie Warner adds 10.3 ppg and 6.3 rebounds per outing.
          Meanwhile, South Carolina State (6-15, 2-6 MEAC) snapped a six-game losing streak on Monday with a 90-75 home win over Florida A&M. Junior forward Presano Bell led the Bulldogs with 15 points, while senior guard Carrio Bennett added 11 points. Senior guards Tyvon Williams and Westley Telafare each added 10 points.
       SC State is led in by senior guard/forward Darnell Porter       The Pirates (17-5, 7-2 MEAC), in their second season under head coach Edward Joyner Jr., won their second straight game on Monday by beating Maryland Eastern Shore 78-66 on ESPNU. Junior guard  led the Pirates with 30 points on a career-high 8-for-14 shooting from 3-point range, while junior guard Christopher Tolson  added 11 points and senior guard Brandon Tunnell  scored 10 points and dished out a career-high 12 assists. with 11.4 ppg and 4.4 rpg. JUCO transfer Brandon Riley is second in scoring with 10.0 ppg, while junior forward Omar Sanders adds 7.2 ppg and 6.2 rpg.

       SC State will return to action Monday when they travel  to  Washington, DC to take on the Bison of Howard University in an exciting Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader. Tip-off for the women's contest is 5:30 p.m. with the men's following immediately.
