SC State Women’s Basketball Opens MEAC Conference Play at Hampton

Hampton, Va.—The SC State Lady Bulldogs will open its 2011-12 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play this Saturday, Dec. 3 when they travel to Hampton, Va. to take on the Hampton Lady Pirates.  The Lady Bulldogs will face Norfolk State on Monday, Dec. 5 in its second conference game of the season.

SC State, who enters the contest with a 2-3 overall record, is led in scoring by Tiara Knotts who is averaging 12.8 points per outing.  Tiana Hemphill is leading the team rebounding at 9.2 boards per contest.  As a whole the Lady Bulldogs are averaging 56 points and 38 rebounds per outing.

Hampton enters the contest at 4-1 overall.  This is also the conference opener for the Lady Pirates.  Choicetta McMillian and Ariel Phelps are currently leading the Lady Pirates in scoring and rebounding averaging 16.6 and 7.8 rebounds, respectively.  Hampton, who is the MEAC two-time defending champion, is averaging 63.8 points and 42 rebounds.

After Monday's match-up with Norfolk State the Lady Bulldogs will have non-conference matchups with Winthrop (Dec. 10), University of South Carolina (Dec. 14) and Coastal Carolina (Dec. 18). SC State will return home on Monday, Dec. 19 when they host UNC-Asheville.
