SC State Players Presented 2010 Superlative Awards

Seven Bulldogs Earn OTC All-State Recognition

ORANGEBURG, SC – SC State football players were presented their 2010 football superlative awards and were also among Palmetto State players recognized as All-State by the Orangeburg Touchdown Club (OTC) during the group's annual banquet Friday (Jan. 28) at The Cinema.

The event included as speakers the mothers of Palmetto State football standouts DL Da'Quan Bowers of Clemson, and WR Alshon Jeffrey and RB Marcus Lattimore of South Carolina. Linda Bowers, Delores Jeffrey and Yolanda Smith answered questions about their sons during a panel moderated by Times and Democrat publisher Cathy Hughes.

Bulldog seniors claimed five of the SC State ten (10) team awards, including the outstanding offensive and defensive player accolades.

Earning top offensive awards quarterback Malcolm Long (6-1, 260 Sr., Gaffney, SC), Offensive MVP; OT Josh Harrison (6-4, 210 Sr., Lake City, SC), Offensive Lineman of the Year; FB Devin Wherry (5-11, 235 So., Rock Hill, SC) as Back of the Year; and WR Lennel Elmore (5-10, 160 So, Allendale, SC) as Wide Receiver of the Year;

Defensive standouts were LB David Erby (5-11, 220 Sr., Rock Hill) as Defensive MVP; LB Donovan Richard (6-1, 190 Jr., Georgetown) as Linebacker of the Year; DB Semaj Moody (5-9, 180 Sr., Denmark, SC) as Defensive Back of the Year; and DL Pat Washington (6-0, 240 Sr., Charleston) as Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Special team awardees were placekicker Blake Erickson (5-10, 165 Jr., Cantonment, Fla.) as Special Team MVP; and linebacker Joe Thomas (6-0, 230 Fr., Blackville, SC), a walk-on as Big Dog of the Year.
SC State head coach Buddy Pough and his staff also recognized the SC State seniors and presented game balls to an offensive and defensive player for each of the Bulldogs' nine victories.

Seven Bulldogs were among the 31 players named to the All-State team as selected by the Orangeburg Touchdown Club. SC State players earning the recognition were OL Johnny Culbreath, OL Harrison, WR Elmore, TE Antuanne Kerr, LB Erby, PK Erickson, DL Washington.
