Second Half Surge Not Enough as SC State Falls to Morgan State in Women’s Basketball

Loss Snaps Three-Game Win Streak for Lady Bulldogs

Baltimore, Md.--SC State's second half surge was not enough as they fell to Morgan State, 54-61 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest in Hill Field house on the campus of Morgan State. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Lady Bulldogs who fell to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC.

Morgan State, (8-7, 3-1 MEAC), took command of the game early opening the game with a 10-4 run and taking its lead up by as many as 18, 27-9, with just over five minutes remaining in the first half. The Lady Bulldogs found themselves down by 16, 30-14, heading into intermission.

SC State picked up its intensity in the second half. The Lady Bulldogs used a used an 8-5 run to the cut deficit in half at 35-22. SC State continued to press Morgan as they used an 11-3 run to pull within six at 40-34 with 7:56 remaining. Morgan State increased its margin to eight, 44-36, before SC State used yet another run to move even closer. The Lady Bulldogs used a 15-9 run to tie the game at 50-50, with just less than three minutes remaining in the contest. A layup by Brittany Noel with 2:19 remaining broke the tie and gave Morgan the lead for good. The Lady Bears closed the game on an 11-4 run en route to the 61-54 victory.

SC State had three players to score in double-figures led by Whitney Wiley with a game-high 14 points. For the second time in as many games, junior transfer Fannie Goodwin recorded a double-double, 12 points-11 rebounds while Tiara Knotts was the third player to record double-figures with 10. Freshman Cherisha Floyd contributed seven points and eight rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs in the loss.

Morgan State was led by Brittany Noel who scored a game-high 14 points and team-high nine rebounds in the victory.

SC State will remain in Baltimore, Md. to take on the Lady Eagles of Coppin State on Monday (Jan. 17). The Lady Bulldogs will play their next three games on the road. After Monday's contest, SC State will travel to Greensboro, NC to take on the Lady Aggies of NC A&T (Sat., Jan 22) then head to Norfolk, Va. to take on the Spartans of Norfolk state (Mon., Jan. 24)
