GREENVILLE, SC— Senior guard/forward Jason Flagler tossed in 19 points, while senior forward Arsenio Williams recorded his first career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Bulldogs defeated the Paladins in overtime 93-91 in Timmons Arena.
A lay up by Arsenio Williams gave the Bulldogs their biggest lead of the first-half, 11 28-17 at the 5:23 mark. The Paladins closed out the half on a jumper by Darryl Evans to cut the lead to five, 30-35.
The Bulldogs took a 35-30 lead into half-time.
SC State built a 10 point lead in the second-half off a pair of free-throws by freshman guard Tyvon Williams to give the Bulldogs a 71-61 lead with 3:35 left in the game. The Paladins rallied back to tie the game 77-77 on a lay up by Justin Dehm with 0:02 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
In overtime it was a lay up by Arsenio Williams with 1:11 left to put the Bulldogs ahead three, 86-83. A jumper by Carrio Bennett who was fouled on the play with 0:04 seconds left sealed the 93-91 victory for South Carolina State.
South Carolina State had five players in double figures on the night, junior transfer Darnell Porter and senior guard Brandon Smalls each chipped in 16. Junior guard Carrio Bennett finished the night with 12. Smalls was also 3-3 from behind the 3-point line, while Bennett led all Bulldogs with six assists on the night.
Tim Carter and the Bulldogs improve to 6-2 on the season, while Furman dropped to 5-4 on the year.
SC State will return to action on Monday will they travel to Iowa City, IA to battle the Iowa Hawkeyes in a non-conference match up.
