South Carolina State Falls To High Point 74-66

Sr., Jason Flagler

HIGH POINT, NC--Senior guard/forward Jason Flagler tossed in 16 points, while freshman guard Khalif Toombs chipped in 11 and junior transfer Darnell Porter added 10 and grabbed seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough as SC State suffered its first loss of the season 74-66 to High Point University Monday.

The Bulldogs jumped out to their biggest lead of the half five, 18-13 off a layup by Jason Flagler at the 8:28 mark.  Freshman Corey Law hit a layup with 7:08 left in the first-half to pull one 17-18. A layup by Law put the Panthers ahead with 0:43 seconds left. High Point closed the first-half with a 30-29 lead.

High Point's Nick Barbour led all scorers in the first-half with 12 points.

HU came out on fire jumping out to an eight point lead in the second-half 47-39 off a 3-pointer by junior guard David Campbell at the 12:11 mark. A 3-pointer by Carrio Bennett cut the Panthers lead to three, 48-45 with 9:45 left in the game.

Free-throws seemed to the deciding factor down the stretch as High Point won the costly battle to extend their lead to eight, 59-51 off a set of free-throws by senior guard Eugene Harris.  A dunk by Law with 1:21 left in the game increased the lead to 10, 69-59 and sealed the 74-66 victory for High Point University.

The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season and fell to 3-1 overall, while High Point improved to 3-2 on the season.

South Carolina State returns to action on Friday when they travel to Winston-Salem, NC to take on the Rams of Winston-Salem State in a non-conference matchup.
