Daniel Lewis

Danny Lewis is in his eighth season on the South Carolina State football coaching staff. After serving as the running backs and tight ends coach and special team’s coordinator, Lewis will now coach the quarterbacks.

Lewis will continue to coordinate the Bulldogs' recruiting efforts. During his first two seasons on the Bulldog staff (2008-2009), Lewis coached SC State’s all-time leading rusher Will Ford. Ford earned All-MEAC and All-America accolades during his Bulldog career, and was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2008. As special team’s coordinator, Lewis coached Blake Erickson, an All-American & All-MEAC performer. In the summer of 2013, Lewis served as an offensive guest coach for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.

Prior to coming to Orangeburg, Lewis served as the Director of Football Operations at Middle Tennessee State in 2006, overseeing the day-to-day logistics of the football program. From 2000 to 2005, Lewis worked at The Citadel, where he had several assignments, among them assistant athletic director for compliance and academic services (2005), assistant head football coach (2003-2004), running backs coach and recruiting coordinator (2001-04).

During his tenure with The Citadel, Lewis coached All-Southern Conference performers at running back, including Nehemiah Broughton who was selected in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. Lewis also coached Bud Pough, son of SC State head coach Oliver “Buddy” Pough, for two seasons.

Lewis spent the spring of 2000 on Coach Tony Felder’s staff at Benedict as offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator before accepting a graduate assistant’s position under Lou Holtz at the University of South Carolina.

Lewis began his coaching career at Newberry College (1998-99) under Mike Taylor. A native of Lexington, S.C., Lewis played tight end and lettered at Charleston Southern before graduating in 1995 from the University of South Carolina with a degree in sports management.

Lewis is married to the former Kim Shaw of Lexington and they have two sons – Eric (16) and Alex (13). The family resides in Columbia, S.C.
