ORANGEBURG, SC---South Carolina State held its second practice of the preseason in a 2:30 p.m. afternoon workout session, in preparation for their season-opener against Southern University in the annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge on Sept. 3, in Baton Rouge, LA.
The Bulldogs worked out for over two hours in helmets and shorts at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
"It's still early and we are basically in the installation process," said head coach Buddy Pough. "It's good when you have extra players in camp, because it gives you chance to get them prepared in case someone needs to step up and fill a position."
Pough added that it's exciting to see a lot of new faces eager to step in early in the preseason.
"We have a chance to be pretty good if we stay focused and work hard," stated Pough. "We have depth at pretty much every position but we are still young in some areas like at the wide receiver spot, but nothing to major that can't be fixed."
The Bulldogs will conduct its third practice Friday (Aug. 4), in a morning session at 9:10 a.m. in helmets and shells, followed by a Saturday (Aug.5) afternoon workout at 2:30 p.m. before suiting up in full gear on Monday afternoon (Aug.7).
SC State will hold its Media/Picture Day on Saturday, Aug. 12, beginning at 9 a.m. The annual "Meet the Players Day," hosted by The S.T.A.T.E Club, is set for Saturday, Aug. 19
that 12 p.m. More details on these events will be released later.
