Bulldogs Named To STATS FCS Preseason All-America Team

CHICAGO— Senior's defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and punt returner/defensive back Antonio Hamilton were named to the STATS FCS Preseason All-America First Team, announced by STATS LLC.
 
Hargrave (6-2, 300, Senior, DL, Salisbury, NC) -Last season led the nation in tackles for loss (23.5/2.3 per game) and  finishjed second in sacks (16/1.5 per game). He was ranked #1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in sacks and tackles for loss and finished with 55 tackles, eight (8) quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup. Hargrave broke the school record for sacks in the game, while tying the FCS Division I-AA National and MEAC Record with his six sack performance against #14 nationally-ranked Bethune-Cookman.

Hamilton(r-Sr., Defensive Back, 6-0, 185, Johnston, SC) - Earned Second and Third Team All-MEAC honors, while playing in 12 games last season. Led the nation (FCS I-AA) and MEAC with 15 punt returns for 384 yards (25.6 yards per return) and two touchdowns. Returned a 91-yard and 51-yard punt return for touchdown in back-to-back MEAC contests. On defense  finished with 36 tackles (34 solo); 4.5 tackles for loss (18 yards); one sack, three interceptions; six pass deflects, and one fumble recovery.

STATS announced its preseason Football Championship Subdivision All-America teams to kick off a broad plan that will expand its coverage of FCS. The 2015 group is headlined by Villanova quarterback John Robertson, the returning national player of the year, as well as five members of four-time defending champion North Dakota State across the three All-America teams.

In addition, STATS is creating a dedicated FCS website featuring breaking news, real-time scores and other unique content that will combine the strengths of the company's data, editorial and products expertise for players, coaches and fans.

In the coming weeks, STATS will announce initial watch lists for its Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards, details around its new FCS website and plans for its postseason awards. The company is scheduled to release its preseason Top 25 poll on Aug. 10, with the FCS Kickoff set for Saturday, Aug. 29 – when four-time defending champion North Dakota State takes on Montana.

The FCS competes at the NCAA's Division I level, and is home to 125 schools in 13 conferences across the country. Approximately 150 FCS players are on NFL rosters annually, including current stars Tony Romo (Eastern Illinois), Joe Flacco (Delaware), Vincent Jackson (Northern Colorado), Jared Allen (Idaho State) and Julius Thomas (Portland State).
