COLUMBIA, SC-– South Carolina State football senior defensive end Reggie Owens will be honored during the Sixth Annual South Carolina Coaches for Charity, Thursday, July 30 at the Columbia Convention Center.
 
An estimated over 300 guests from throughout the state will be in attendance for this year's charitable event.
 
Fisher DeBerry, a South Carolina native and Hall of Fame former head football coach at the U.S. Air Force Academy, hosts the event through the Fisher DeBerry Foundation, which assists children of single parent families. Football coaches from around the state come together for the event, all in the name of charity. The participating coaches are Steve Spurrier, Dabo Swinney, Mike Ayers, Bruce Fowler, Mike Houston, and Buddy Pough (Hall of Fame Coach Willie Jeffries). 

Each coach chooses a charity that benefits from his participation, as well as his Jerry Richardson Community MVP Award honoree, who is recognized during the evening.
Coach Pough's 2015 Community MVP is Bulldog senior defensive end Reggie Owens. Owens is being honored for his heroic actions, where he saved the lives of three children after a horrific DUI crash near Savannah in April.

Other 2015 Jerry Richardson Community MVP Award recipients are:
- Mike Ayers: Bobby Ivey (posthumously) and Spartanburg FCA
- Bruce Fowler: Keeter Horton and Chris & Kelly's HOPE Foundation
- Mike Houston: Andy Clawson and Lowcountry FCA
- Buddy Pough (represented by Willie Jeffries): Reggie Owens and BCO Tri-County FCA
- Steve Spurrier: Marcus Lattimore and HBC Foundation
- Dabo Swinney: Eric Mac Lain and Dabo's All In Team Foundation

 In the first four years of the event, over $200,000 has been raised for these organizations across South Carolina. Additionally, the evening raises funds to help send children from single-parent families to FCA summer camps.

Guests will be treated to a cocktail reception, a dinner program emceed by WIS News 10's Rick Henry and former coach Art Baker, entertainment, football highlight videos and for the first time a "Coaches Roundtable," with all of the coaches on stage together. The event also features live and silent auctions.
