Robertson Adds Three More to Women’s Basketball Program

Jasmine Coleman will play for the Lady Bulldogs in the 2014-15 season.
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – South Carolina State head women's basketball coach Doug Robertson announced Monday the signing of three more student-athletes who will play for SC State in the 2014-15 season.
 
Jasmine Coleman, Toni Grier and Jamella Smith are the most recent signees to the Lady Bulldog program.
 
Coleman (6-0, forward/Decatur, Ga./Southwest Dekalb HS/Wallace State CC) comes  to SC State after playing two seasons at Wallace State Community College. Last season as a sophomore, she played and started 31 games and averaged 9.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, two blocks, 1.8 steals and 1.2 assists per game while helping the Lady Lions to a 27-5 overall record. During her freshman campaign, she averaged 6.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.8 blocks in 17.8 minutes per game.
 
Robertson on Coleman: "I will look for Jasmine to continue to be a tough rebounder and improve our scoring around the basket. Her experience and strong leadership qualities should help with our freshmen development."
 
Grier (5-11, forward/Powder Springs, Ga./Hiram HS/Albany (Ga.) Technical College) played two seasons at Albany Technical College in Albany, Ga. and led the team in scoring and rebounding with 13.2 points and 8.3 boards per game last season. As a senior at Hiram HS in 2011-12, she tallied 12.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest. She earned several awards during her prep career including Hiram's Offensive MVP (2010), MVP (2011) and co-County Player of the Year (2011).
 
Robertson on Grier: "Toni can score and rebound well and is another experienced player who will aid in molding the younger players."

Smith (5-10, guard/Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill HS) was a four-year varsity player at Chapel Hill HS. She earned All-USA North Carolina Second team honors and Big Eight 3A all-conference honors after leading Chapel Hill HS to a perfect 32-0 record and the North Carolina High School Athletics Association 3A title in 2013-14. As a senior, she averaged 11.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game.
 
Robertson on Smith: "Jamella is a solid player who can score, rebound and create opportunities for her teammates."
