ORANGEBURG, SC – The SC State women's basketball team (5-14, 3-6 MEAC) hopes to snap a five-game losing streak Saturday (Feb. 8) when the Lady Bulldogs travel to Dover, DE to face Delaware State (6-14, 1-7 MEAC) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader, beginning at 2 p.m. The men's game will follow at approximately 4 p.m.

Since registering a 68-57 home victory over Florida A&M Jan. 18, Coach Doug Robertson's team has lost five straight contests – all in conference play – to dip to 5-14 on the year and 3-6 in the MEAC. The Lady Bulldogs are mired in 10th place in the league standings, two spots ahead of Del-State, which is in 12th place at 6-14 overall and 1-7 in MEAC contests.

Robertson and his squad hope to have the services of top scorer Kourtney Williams on Saturday. The Lady Bulldog junior was injured late in a 78-47 home loss to league leader Hampton on Jan. 27th. The Warren, OH guard, averaging 17.8 points and 4.8 rebounds, has missed the team's last two starts – close losses at Florida A&M (70-640 Feb. 1 and at Bethune-Cookman (64-56) Feb. 3.

"It's obvious that we have been struggling, even with Kourtney in the lineup," said Robertson. "And without her has made it extremely hard to generate the kind of offense needed to compete in our league. We hope her return will make a difference. "It's important that we try to right the ship by getting a victory on Saturday, finishing the regular season strong and have a good showing in the tournament (scheduled for Mar. 10-15 at Norfolk, VA)."

Williams, the only SC State player averaging double figures, was replaced in the starting lineup by redshirt sophomore Mykala Jones, who had a career-high 24 points in the loss at Florida A&M and is averaging 9.8 ppg. Right behind her is graduate Cabriel Duren with a 9.7 scoring average. Senior Cherisha Floyd is the top rebounder with 5.6 per game, followed by junior Persephone Goodwin at 5.5 boards each outing. The Lady Hornets are led by junior Tierra Hawkins who is averaging 20.7 points and 10.2 rebounds, both team highs. Del-State is coming off an 81-54 loss to Coppin State on Feb. 3.

Saturday's contest is the only scheduled meeting between the two teams this season.
