SC State Hosts Savannah State In A Crucial MEAC Doubleheader

ORANGEBURG—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball team will play host to visiting Savannah State University, in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic showdown Saturday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
       On the men's side, the Bulldogs (4-17 overall, 0-8 MEAC) will be looking for their first conference win of the season against the talented Tigers of Savannah State (12-10 overall, 6-2 MEAC). In their last meeting the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 83-53 (1-21-22) earlier this season.
        Senior Brandon Riley leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 17.3 ppg and 3.9 rpg, while junior point guard Khalif Toombs is second with 11 points per game and 4.3 assists. Senior forward Omar Sanders leads the team in rebounding with 7.2 rebounds per outing along with 10.2 points per contest.
         The Tigers are led by Rashad Hassan with 13.2 ppg, while teammate Deric Rudolph adds 11.0 points per contest. Arnold Louis heads up the front court leading the team in rebounding with 8.2 RPG, while scoring 9.1 points per game.
        On the women's side, Coach Doug Roberston and the Lady Bulldogs (8-11 overall, 3-5 MEAC) will be looking to get back into the thick of things and snap a three-game losing streak against the Lady Tigers of Savannah State (8-12 overall, 2-6 MEAC).
         In their last meeting the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Bulldogs 76-65 in Savannah, Ga.
Junior guard Tiara Knotts leads SC State in scoring with 12.4 per contest, while point guard Cabriel Duren and forward Paris Alston adds a little over 8.4 points per outing. Junior forward/center Tiana Hemphill leads the team in rebounding grabbing 8.3 boards per contest.
         The Lady Tigers are led by Ezinne Kalu with 18.3 ppg, while teammate Jasmine Kirkland chipps in 8.4 per game.
          The SC State women will have the week off before hitting the road next week to battle the N.C. A&T State Aggies and the NC Central University Eagles in an MEAC doubleheader. Meanwhile, the men return to action Monday when they host Longwood University in a non-conference matchup. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
