ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State. Monday, conducted its fifth preseason workout and first in full pads. The reaction from Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough after the session was mixed.
“We looked good at times and we looked bad at times,” Pough said. “But putting on full pads, it gives you a chance to get a better feel for just what players are going to help you. It really allows you to evaluate your skill guys and how they react to certain situations.”
During Monday's drill, the Bulldogs emphasized kicking concepts, devoting some time to snap operations, PATS, field goals and kickoffs.
“We got some solid performances from our kickers,” said Pough. “There's still a good bit of work left to be done, but our kickers are coming along well.”
Pough said his team, which was still installing its defensive and offensive concepts, was making progress.
“We are moving along and just want to get a little bit better each day,” he said.
The Bulldogs will conduct the first of four two-a-day workouts on Tuesday, with a morning session at 8:30 a.m. and an evening workout at 6:40.
Notes: Bulldog junior defensive lineman Ronell Ferguson of Lincolnton, GA, was injured near the end of Monday's workout and was transported by ambulance to the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg for evaluation. An update on his condition will be provided later.
