SC State Conducts Morning Practice, Takes Evening Off

No Practice Thursday as Classes Begin

Preseason Update

ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State Bulldogs, after a lively and sometimes heated morning practice Wednesday,  were slated to return to the field in the evening, however, for the second time in four scheduled two-a-day workouts, head football coach Buddy Pough provided his team a bonus as he cancelled the evening drill.

The Bulldogs, who were already anticipating a scheduled day from the gridiron on Thursday -- the first day of classes -- will not resume practice until Friday at 3:30 p.m.

During Wednesday's workout, SC State worked on goal line drills, inside-run plays and situational scale drills. The Bulldogs also devoted some time to punts and field goals.

SC State closed out the practice with a lively goal-line exercise that featured an intense battle between the offense and defense as the former attempted to get into the end zone and the latter was out to deny. Things got a little testy between the two sides, leading to a post-practice lecture by Pough.

“We want you to be aggressive, to battle hard, but we also want to take care of each other,” Pough told his players. “But there is no place on our team for any confrontation when someone gets the best of you. You just have to reach down and try harder on the next play. We are trying to make each other better. “

Following Friday's practice, the Bulldogs will conduct their second scrimmage Saturday at approximately 9 a.m. The scrimmage will be followed at noon by the annual “Meet the Players Day,” sponsored by The STATE Club, and the presentation of the 2009 championship rings.
