ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State conducted its third spring practice on Friday evening. The approximately two hour workout was the first in shoulder pads for the Bulldogs, who have 12 practice dates remaining.
Head Coach Buddy Pough called the workout “not bad.”
“Putting on shoulder pads for the first time enabled us to do a little bit more running and quite a bit of team work,” Pough said. “We still have a few players wondering what they are supposed to do, but for the most part, the execution was good.
“As usual, the defense always appears s to be more in tune to the things we are attempting to do,” continued Pough. And, that pretty much has been the case thus far, but we expect the offense to come around and do well.
“We will continue to take a good look at our running back and wide receiver situation, but Malcolm (Long) has done a good job at quarterback. We will be working more to make (Derrick) Wiley a more complete player at the position, and we also used (redshirt) Richard Cue some because we think he may have a chance to help our team.”
The Bulldogs will hold their fourth practice on Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. It will be the first Bulldog workout in full pads, according to Pough.
