SC State Supports the WBCA Pink Zone Efforts

Fans are asked to wear pink in support of the fight against Breast Cancer

Women's Basketball
ORANGEBURG, SC – For the second straight season, the SC State women's basketball team will wear pink uniforms in support of the WBCA Pink Zone (formerly “Think Pink”). This year the Lady Bulldogs will wear their pink uniforms in its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match-up versus Hampton University this Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009. Tip-off for the contest is set for 2 p.m.

SC State is among the many collegiate women's basketball programs that have joined forces with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) during the 2009 WBCA Pink Zone week in an effort to bring more awareness to the fight against breast cancer.
The WBCA Pink Zone™ initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The week set aside for this year's initiative is February 13-22, however many schools are participating outside of that window due to scheduling conflicts. Prior to Saturday's game a moment of silence will be observed in recognition of NC State's long-time head coach Kay Yow who lost her battle with breast cancer in January.

The WBCA, founded in 1981, promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game as a sport for women and girls.

Breast cancer survivors will be honored at half-time of the women's game. Bulldogs fans are asked that all fans wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Week.

SC State will be asking for donations during the game with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Fund.

Tickets are $$8 reserve, $5 general admission and $3 for youth 17 and under and visiting college students with proper id and. Free for SC State Students with School ID. For more information, contact the SC State ticket office at 803-536-8579 or visit www.scsuathletics.com.
