ORANGEBURG, SC – Three South Carolina State players will be among the college seniors participating in Saturday’s (Dec. 19) Russell Athletic HBCU Bowl to be played at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET.
Bulldog seniors playing in the game are wide receiver Tre’ Young, defensive back Phillip Adams and running back Travil Jamison, who replaced Will Ford, who was injured in the SC State - App State FCS playoff contest and subsequently had knee surgery.
Young led the MEAC in receptions with 65 for 995 yards and nine scores and set school records for career catches, career receiving yards and yards in a single season. Adams was fifth on the squad in total tackles with 48 and tied for the lead in interceptions with three, two of which he returned for scores. Jamison, as the backup to Ford, had 94 carries for 357 yards and five touchdowns
Classics Sports Radio Network will broadcast the contest, which will be carried in this area by SC State campus station WSSB (90.3 FM). The game can also be heard online at www.classicsportsradio.com. Donal Ware will call the play-by-play with Steve Robinson handling the color analyst duties.
The game, using an East vs. West-style format, will feature some of the top senior football players in Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The East team is made up of players from the MEAC and CIAA, while players from the SWAC and SIAC make up the West squad. The players have been at the site most of the week and participated in “combine” type workouts for National Football League teams and representatives from the Canadian Football League, Arena Football and the United Football League
Joe Taylor, head coach at Florida A&M will coach the East team, with Reggie Barlow, head coach at Alabama State, coaching the West squad.
