Three Bulldogs Earn MEAC Weekly Honors

Malcolm Long Among HRSN POTW Finalists

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., South Carolina State junior quarterback Malcolm Long, senior defensive back Phillip Adams and sophomore kicker Blake Erickson all earned Mid-Eastern Athletic conference honors this week, the league announced on Monday.

 

Long was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Week, Adams earned Defensive Player of the Week, while Erickson was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively in the 37-10 win over Norfolk St.

 

Long (QB, 6-3, 250, Jr., Gaffney, SC) completed 70-percent of his passes (16-of-23) with 206 yards and one touchdown in the Bulldogs win, 37-10, over Norfolk State.  He also ran the ball seven times for 22 yards with a rushing touchdown to help the Bulldogs increase their MEAC win streak to 13 games.

 

Adams (DB, 6-1, 190, Sr., Rock Hill, SC) tallied five tackles, four solo, in the Bulldogs win that limited Norfolk state to 10 points and just 205 total offensive yards.  He also jump started the Bulldogs scoring with a 31-yard fumble return for a touchdown, with one pass breakup. 

 

Erickson (PK/P, 5-10, 1675, So., Cantonment, and Fla.) made 3-of-3 field goals (39, 30 and 32 yards) and was perfect in extra point attempts (5-of-5) in the Bulldogs 37-10 win over Norfolk State.  Erickson also shouldered the kickoff duties, averaging 37.2 yards on four punts, including a long 43-yard boot.

 

Other receiving honors were Kory Kowalski of Bethune-Cookman earned Rookie of the Week honors while Ryan Cave of Hampton earned Offensive Lineman of the Week accolades.
