Lady Bulldogs Pick Up First League Win Of The Season

ORANGEBURG, SC—Junior guard forward/guard Shontavious Wylie had a double-double and a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds as the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs cruised to an 81-62 victory over Norfolk State at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 19 point lead, 28-9 on a layup by Shontavious Wylie at the 10:48 mark in the first-half. A jumper by Wylie with 3:00 minutes left in the half gave SC State its biggest lead of the day 26, 46-20.
South Carolina State closed out the half with a 47-22 advantage. The Lady Bulldogs took full control of the second-half pushing to lead to 30, 60-30 on a layup by Shontavious Wylie at the 14:25 mark. A pair of free-throws by Tiffany McNair cut SC State’s lead to 19, 74-55 with 5:02 left in the game.
A layup by senior Marie Reid and sophomore forward Samantha Daniels sealed the 81-62 victory for the Lady Bulldogs. With the win the SC State improved to 4-12 overall, 1-3 in the MEAC, while Norfolk State drops to 0-15 overall, 0-6 in the league.
Senior Marie Reid tossed in 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Sophilia Hipps added 13 in the win. Norfolk State was led by freshman guards Tyisha Bridges with 16 points, Whitney Long with 13 and junior center added seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Monday against the North Carolina A&T Aggies in 6:30 p.m. tip-off. The men’s game will be televised live on ESPNU following the women’s game in a 9:00 p.m. tip-off.

Orangeburg, SC— SC State women’s basketball head coach Doug Robertson will host a women’s basketball clinic, Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010. The clinic, which is open to women ages 21 and up, will be held at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on the campus of SC State University. Check-in for the clinic will begin at 7 a.m. with the activities beginning at 9 a.m.
The clinic will include a question and answer session with Bulldog coach’s wives, a meet and greet along with a photo with Coach Robertson, shopping with SC State Bulldog vendors and lunch provided by Subway. The registration fee for the clinic is $30 per adult.
