ORANGEBURG, SC—The 1995-96 South Carolina State men's basketball team finished the season with a 22-8 overall record, including a 14-2 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The Bulldogs earned the MEAC regular-season and tournament championships, while finishing a perfect 13-0 at home, a first for any SC State men's basketball squad.

Coach Cy Alexander's team earned the school's second NCAA Tournament appearance and a 15^th seed in NCAA Basketball Championships. The Bulldogs were named National Black College Champions by The American Sports Wire. Several players earned postseason honors, including Derrick Patterson and Roderick "Moo Moo" Blakney.

Blakney was named MEAC Rookie of the Year, while Derrick Patterson, Blakney and Jamal Brown all were named to the MEAC All-Tournament Team. Patterson was named Tournament MVP and Head Coach Cy Alexander was named MEAC Most Outstanding Tournament Coach.
