GREENSBORO, N.C. – The South Carolina State men finished sixth and the women 13
th at the 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championship conducted May 5-7 at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.
Eight members of the SC State men's squad, which amassed 70 points, earned All-MEAC honors, led by hurdler
Chris Gaddist, who won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 51.15 for a place on the first team
Earning All-MEAC second-team accolades was the 4x100-meter relay team of Gaddist,
Demek Kemp, Tyrell Richard and
Jeffrey Jones, which was second with a time of 40.35. Third-team All-MEAC honors went to Gaddist, third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.99;
Matthew Aleruchi, third in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.86m (153-09); and
Anthony Britt, third in the shot put with a throw of 16.25m (53-03.75).
Additional top 10 finishes for SC State included Kemp, 5
th in both the long jump (7.52m, 24-08.25) and the 100 meters (10.37); Jeffrey Mc Reynolds, 5
th in the decathlon (5451 pts.);
Elijah Case, 5
th in the 800 meters; the 4x400-meter relay team, 5
th (3:12.88);
Brandon Perry, 6
th in the discus (41.51m, 136-02);
Anthony Britt, 6
th in the javelin (48.72m, 159-10);
Jeffrey Jones, 7
th in the long jump (7.18m, 23-06.75); and Tyrell Richard, 7
th in the 400 meters (47.64).
The Bethune-Cookman men amassed 151 points to claim their third straight title. Host N.C. A&T was second with 134 points and Maryland Eastern Shore third with 110.
The SC State women compiled three points in the competition with a seventh-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The Florida A&M women tallied 164 points to win their second straight championship and their 11
th overall title. Hampton was second with 139 points and Bethune-Cookman third with 106.
