NORFOLK, Va. – The South Carolina State women's volleyball team was picked to finish fifth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division the league announced Friday.
Howard University was predicted to win the Northern Division, while Florida A&M University was chosen to claim the Southern Division. All awards are voted on by the conference's head volleyball coaches and sports information directors. Florida A&M sophomore outside hitter Pamela Soriano was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Preseason Player of the Year.
Coppin State and Bethune-Cookman were voted to finish second, respectively, in the North and South Divisions.
Defending conference champion Hampton was picked third in the Northern Division, followed by Morgan State and Maryland Eastern Shore in fourth and fifth, respectively. Norfolk State and Delaware State were voted sixth and seventh to round out the Northern Division.
North Carolina A&T was predicted to finish third in the Southern Division, while North Carolina Central and Savannah State were voted to finish fourth and sixth.
The Lady Bulldogs open the 2015 season against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Aug. 28 at the UMES Maroon and Gray Tournament in Princess Anne, Md.
