ORANGEBURG, SC—South Carolina State men's assistant basketball coach
Rio Pitt will attend the Athletes In Action (AIA) HBCU Coaches Retreat held June 5-7 in Xenia, Ohio.
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity that head coach
Murray Garvin has provided by allowing me to participate in this event," said Pitt. "He believes in his coaching staff and wants to you to reach your highest potential professionally. I plan to absorb as much information possible and represent this university well."
CBS College Basketball Analyst Clark Kellogg along with other distinguished coaches will be on hand to provide their perspectives on personal and professional growth, leadership development, and spiritual encouragement.
"What a great opportunity for Coach Pitt to attend a retreat aimed at some of the outstanding coaches from HBCU'S from across the country" said Garvin. "He will have the chance to network and learn from some of the best and most influential people in college basketball."
Pitt a former standout with the Bulldog basketball team, is in his fourth season as an assistant and is responsible for team travel, developing post players, recruiting, on the floor coaching as well as serving as video coordinator and basketball operations.
A native of Brooklyn, NY he earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from SC State in 2011, and is a member of several professional organizations, including the Black Coaches Association (BCA), and Omega Psi Phi, Inc.
