ORANGEBURG, SC – Former South Carolina State wide receiver Theodore "Teddy" Carter, a member of the Bulldog Athletics Hall of Fame, died Thursday at the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Ga., following an extended illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later.

The 58-year old Carter, a Bamberg, SC native, was a wide receiver for SC State during his playing days (1975-1978). He led the run-oriented Bulldogs in receptions as a sophomore in 1976 when the team was named National Black College Champion.

Carter, who earned a bachelor's in physical education at SC State in 1979, was inducted into the SCSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000 and was named to the Bulldog Centennial Football Team in 2007.

A retired United States Army Major, Carter made his home in Norcross, Ga., an Atlanta suburb.
