GREENSBORO, N.C. – The South Carolina men's outdoor track and field team finished eighth with 43 points, while the women's team placed 10
th with 28 points in the final day of competition at the 2015 MEAC Outdoor Championships at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.
The Bethune-Cookman men (139 points) and the Florida A&M women (111 points) took home the respective titles.
Demek Kemp earned Second Team All-MEAC honors after placing second in the 100 meters in 10.32 seconds. He also earned third team honors for finishing third in the long jump and for being a part of the 4x400 team that won the bronze medal after running a time of 3:10.76. Christopher Gaddist,
Brandon Lowery, Kemp and Jared Jeter made up the relay team.
Jeter was the only other Bulldog to make the All-MEAC Third Team for finishing third in the 400 meters (46.88).
The men also picked up points in the javelin, 4x100-meter relay, 110-meter hurdles and the 200 meters.
Dwight Rogers placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 145 feet, 2 inches (44.26 meters). The 4x100 team of Kemp,
Jeffrey Jones,
Bryson Brown and Gaddist was fifth in 40.88, while
Moses Kennedy ran the 110 hurdles in 14.41 (seventh place). Jones was eighth in the 200, completing the race in 21.72.
The Lady Bulldogs got fourth-place finishes in the 4x100 relay, 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday. Antavia Owens, Kariss Bertling, Nyeshia Dease and
Keziah Brown ran the 4x100 in 46.10, while
Tenisha Stanley finished the 100 hurdles in 13.88 and
Nikkia Jefferson completed the 400 hurdles in 1:01.72.
Owens came in fifth in the 100 meters in 11.75 and
Biqualia Scott (90-9; 27.66 meters) and Celeste Taylor (77-8; 23.68 meters) finished 12
th and 14
th, respectively, in the javelin.
