Kemp, Bulldog Track and Field Teams Head to MEAC Outdoor Championships

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are set to compete in the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) 2015 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held April 30-May 2 at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University, in Greensboro, N.C.

"The outdoor conference championship looks promising for us", said head coach Tim Langford. "I expect to have several good performances in both the men's and women's programs."

Leading the men's team on the track is freshman standout Demek Kemp who currently leads the MEAC in the 100 meters. He ran a career-best time of 10.25 seconds to finish first in the 100m at the Savannah State Tiger Twilight on April 1. That performance also qualified Kemp to compete at the 2015 the USTAF Junior Outdoor Championships that will be held in Eugene, Ore. June 18-21.

In the men's field events, the Bulldogs claimed two of the top four spots in the conference in the hammer throw. At the University of North Florida Twilight, junior Jerrell Frierson had a season-best throw of 38.73 meters (127 feet, 1 inch), which ranks second in the MEAC. Freshman Roderick Britt hit a mark of 31.51m (103-4) at the same meet for a fourth-place ranking in the conference.

Senior Antavia Owens leads the Lady Bulldogs in the sprints and currently ranks second in the MEAC in the 100m with a time of 11.62. She ran the junior nationals qualifying time at Winthrop University's Carolina's Cup last week. Freshman Biqualia Scott is the Lady Bulldogs' highest-ranking field athlete this season. She currently sits in sixth place in the conference in the hammer throw with a mark of 28.46m (93-4).

"I am very excited to see that we can contend in every sprinting event. Demek is off to an exceptional start in his Bulldog career and I expect Antavia to end her Bulldog career on a high note," Langford said.
