Garvin Adds Addition To Backcourt With Signing of Troutman

Gerdarius Troutman
ORANGEBURG, SC—South Carolina State head men's basketball coach Murray Garvin, has added an addition in the backcourt with the signing of shooting/point guard Gerdarius Troutman out of Taylor County High School in Butler, Ga. to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bulldogs this upcoming 2014-15 season.

Troutman, a 6-4 guard, was the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) 4-AA Player of the Year while earning a spot on the Middle Georgia Classic All-Star team.

He was named to the 2013-14 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-State 1st team, Hoopseen.com All-State 1st team, and 1st team All-Middle Georgia teams. This past season he averaged 22.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game and made a season-high 66 3-pointers, earning 1st team Georgia Athletics Coaches Association (GACA) All-Region honors.

A three-year starter for the Vikings during his career, Troutman was named the GACA 4-AA Player of the Year during his sophomore and junior years. A GACA 1st team All-State selection in 2012 and 2013, he also earned 1st team All-Regions honors while being named to Atlanta Journal Constitution 2nd team as a sophomore and was recognized as a "Fab Five Player" in Central Georgia for all classifications during his junior season.

Troutman highlighted his senior season scoring a career-high 47 points while knocking down a record 11 3-pointers in a single game. He closed out his Viking career with 327 career 3-pointers made, with several games where he had made eight or more in a contest.

He holds a 3.7 grade point average and received several offers from Florida Atlantic, New Hampshire and a host of other Division I schools throughout the country.

"We are excited about adding a young man with Gerdarius' abilities to our program, but we are even more excited about the young man's character off the court," said Garvin. "He was one of the prolific 3-point shooters in the state of Georgia over his prep career and his accolades speak for themselves."
