SCSU Men’s Track Finishes 9th at 2014 MEAC Outdoor Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The South Carolina State men's track and field team finished ninth with 50 points at the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T University.
 
Bethune-Cookman tallied 132 points to win their first MEAC Men's Outdoor title. North Carolina A&T followed in second place with 101 points, while Hampton finished third with 89 points.
 
The highlight of the day for SC State came in the 400-meter hurdles when Barry Bethea won the gold medal, finishing the race in 51.16. Bethea, the silver medalist at last year's conference championships, also earned First Team All-MEAC honors for his efforts.
 
Xavier Molette received third-team all-conference honors when he won the bronze medal in the discus on Thursday.
 
Lorezo Johnson finished fourth in the pole vault after clearing 4.27 meters (14-0) and Michael Wamer took fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 15 meters (49-2.5).
 
The Bulldogs had three finishers in the javelin throw. Anthony Britt finished seventh with a throw of 49.97 meters (163-11) to score two points. Tomas Bizon (46.33, 152-0) and Daquavis McIlwain (43.39, 142-4) finished ninth and 13th, respectively.
 
Both relay teams came in third. The 4x100 team of Joseph Brevard, Bryson Brown, Khorvon Nelson and Bethea ran the race in 41.38. Bethea, Nelson, Brandon Lowery and Seymour Walter posted a time of 3:11.87 in the 4x400.
 
Aaron Worthy, Jr. also scored for SC State on Saturday by finishing eighth in the steeplechase with a time of 10:32.71.
