ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team added more depth in the front court with the signing of 6-10 power forward Doudou Gueye to a National Letter of Intent.
Gueye (6-10, 245), a native of Dakar Senegal, will fill the void of departing All-MEAC performer
Matthew Hezekiah and reserve forward
Chasen Campbell this upcoming 2014-15 season.
A transfer from Western Nebraska Community College, he played a key role in the post for the Cougars.
While in Senegal, he was a part of The S.E.E.D.S program, which places numerous young men from Africa in colleges and universities throughout the United States.
He also participated in the N.B.A program Hoops 4 Hope (Basketball Without Borders), a program held each summer in which the NBA selects 60 of the top young basketball players across Africa to participate in building leadership and life skills while coaching basketball to the youth of Africa.
"We are excited for Doudou and South Carolina State. They are getting not only a versatile and talented big man but an even better person," said Russell Beck head coach of Western Nebraska Community College. "The teachers, players and especially the fans are going to miss Dou, but we are excited about his next venture and we will always be pulling for him here at Western Nebraska."
A student of the game on and off the court, Gueye received several offers from Alabama State, Coastal Carolina, Charleston Southern and a host of other Division I schools throughout the country.
