Former SC State Head Football Coach & Hall of Famer Memorial Service Set

Dr. Roy (D.D.) Moore, Sr.
ORANGEBURG, SC – A memorial service for former South Carolina State head football coach and Hall of Famer Dr. Roy (D.D.) Moore, Sr. will be held Saturday (May 24) at 1 p.m. at St. James Presbyterian Church, 820 Ross Avenue, Greensboro, NC. Fraternal and family visitation will be held at 12 noon.

Dr. Moore, a Charlotte, NC native, died May 12. He was 92.

Moore was head football coach at SC State for five seasons – 1955-59. He compiled a 23-19 record with three winning campaigns. His best season was in 1958 when the Bulldogs were 7-2. Moore also served as an administrator in the Health & Physical Education Department during his SC State tenure.

He was inducted into the SC State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. He is also enshrined in the NC Central and CIAA halls of fame.

After leaving SC State in 1960, Dr. Moore served a short stint at Delaware State before becoming Chairman of the Health, PE and Recreational Department at North Carolina A&T, a position he held for 20 years before retiring.

A North Carolina Central graduate, Dr. Moore was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eva Val and three children.
