ORANGEBURG, SC—South Carolina State head men's basketball coach
Murray Garvin ,has announced the signing of Charleston Collegiate Ty Solomon to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bulldogs this upcoming 2014-15 season.
Solomon, a 5-11 point guard, was the South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA) Region 1-AA player of the year and led the Sun Devils to the SCISA AA state championship for the first time in school history.
He was named the 2013-14 SCISA Region 1-AA Player of the Year and was selected to the 2013-14 All-State, 2013-14 All-State tournament, and 2013-14 High School Sports Report (HSSR) All-State teams. During his senior campaign along with earning Region Tournament MVP honors, he was named to the 2013 Roundball Classic and 2013 Porter Gaud Classic All-tournament teams.
An SCISA All-State selection his junior year, he led the Low Country in assists and was named 2012-13 Co-Region Player of the Year and Region Tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP), while leading Charleston Collegiate to the SCISA Region Championship and State semifinals.
This past season he averaged 15.4 points, 6.8 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 3.6 steals, enroute to earning his second straight Team Most Valuable Player Award.
