CAYCE, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's tennis teams advance in the opening round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Tennis Championships, Thursday at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
 
The No.2 seed Lady Bulldogs, the defending MEAC tournament champion, opened play in the quarterfinals with a 4-0 win over No. 3 seed Delaware State.
 
SC State took an early lead winning the doubles point, going into singles action with a 1-0 advantage. The Lady Bulldogs sealed the victory in singles with freshman Oleksandra Filippova  def. Maja Banas 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot, First Team All-MEAC perfomer freshman Intissar Rassif  def. Meheq Khokhar 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot and freshman Marketa Marcanikova knocked off Bermet Kabylbekova 6-0, 6-0 at the No 6 spot.
 
Meanwhile on the men's side, No. 1 seed South Carolina State, the defending MEAC tournament champion, moved on easily to the semifinal round of the Men's MEAC Tennis Championships with a 4-0 victory over No. 4 seed Howard.
 
The Bulldogs captured the doubles point early on over the Bison, while capturing three straight points at the number three, four and five positions to take the match.
 
The Lady Bulldogs move on to play Howard in the semifinal round tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., while the men battle Florida A&M in the semifinals tomorrow at 12 noon.
